Harvest Information

Total deer harvest and the deer vehicle accident (DVA) rate in Illinois from 1991 to 2017. The DVA is calculated by dividing the number of DVAs by the number of vehicle miles travelled. Each county in Illinois is assigned a goal for reducing the deer-vehicle accident rate to a level at or below a set rate, achieved primarily by deer hunting. More hunting permits are issued as the DVA rate increases. NOTE: The Illinois Department of Transportation did not collect data in 1996, which is why data is missing for that year.
